A tunnel constructed high in the mountains of northeastern India has become the latest flashpoint in a simmering border dispute between New Delhi and Beijing.

China also claims the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, where the tunnel was constructed, as its own, even as the area has long functioned as Indian territory.

Chinese officials in recent days have slammed the tunnel project and Modi’s visit to the state, accusing New Delhi of taking steps to undermine peace along the border.

“We require the Indian side to cease any action that may complicate the boundary question … the Chinese military remains highly vigilant and will resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” a Defense Ministry spokesperson said last week, using the Chinese name “Zangnan” or South Tibet to refer to Arunachal Pradesh.

From futuristic architecture to pioneering infrastructure, Dubai is no stranger to weird, wonderful, and downright wacky innovation. But on Wednesday, the “City of Superlatives” went full sci-fi when eight pilots, suited and booted like Marvel’s “Iron Man,” took to the skies.

They were not fighting supervillains or alien warlords, though. Against a backdrop of skyscrapers and super yachts, the airborne athletes competed in the inaugural Jet Suit Race Series, an event organized by the Dubai Sports Council and Gravity Industries, the manufacturers of the jet suit.

“Unlike most racing, you’re racing in three dimensions,” says Richard Browning, chief test pilot for UK-based Gravity Industries, which he founded in 2017. “There’s pilots above and below, and all over the place, so it’s a really interesting experience.”

The eight pilots raced around a one-kilometer (0.6-mile) course, maneuvering between 12 giant inflatable obstacles placed in the water. Four heats created a leaderboard that culminated in a final round, with each race only lasting around 90 seconds.

“We had people getting disqualified, we had people losing it, we had somebody go in the water — we had just utter chaos, in a great way,” says Browning.

He hopes that the event will inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to dream big: “Most technology is ludicrous and impossible until it isn’t.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers fired Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter Wednesday night, after the translator told ESPN that Ohtani paid off the interpreter’s offshore gambling debts and as Ohtani’s lawyer told another story, accusing the translator of stealing roughly $4.5 million.

While fans sorted through the ramifications and Ohtani played on in the Dodgers’ season-opening series in Seoul, experts and amateurs alike joined office pools and placed wagers on the first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the country’s closest thing to an official sports betting holiday.

Players, leagues and fans have been reckoning with the still-unfolding effects of sports gambling since a Supreme Court ruling handed the question of legalization to states in 2018. Each constituency may be arriving at the realization those impacts have mushroomed beyond anyone’s control.

“The amount of money is so enormous that it is almost impossible to attack the problem,” former MLB commissioner Fay Vincent said in a phone interview Thursday. “Theoretically, there’s nothing wrong with an adult who has control of his brain and control of his financial situation betting on sports. The problem is, the sport itself gets so caught up in the amount of money that I don’t know how a professional sport or the NCAA or anybody - how do you draw up a code of conduct for an individual? What’s the line? When do we start admitting this is a really big problem?”

Former Brazilian soccer player Robinho arrested after failed appeal

Former Brazilian footballer Robson de Souza – also known as Robinho – was arrested by Federal Police on Thursday in Santos, in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, his lawyer told CNN affiliate CNN Brasil, as police cars were seen leaving his residence in Santos.

The 40-year-old former AC Milan and Brazil striker faces nine years in prison after being convicted in Italy for gang raping a woman with five other men in 2013 after plying her with alcohol in a Milan nightclub.

Robinho’s arrest comes as Brazil’s Supreme Court (STF) denied his appeal on Thursday to remain out of custody while all judicial appeals against his conviction are exhausted and ordered for the “immediate” start of his prison sentence, according to a statement from the STF.
The footballer’s defense team had appealed to Brazilian authorities to allow Robinho to serve his jail time in Italy, rather than Brazil and to remain free while all appeal proceedings are ongoing, according to the STF decision.

Robinho has always denied the charges.

Following Thursday’s arrest Robinho is expected to face a custody hearing on Friday before being sent to a detention facility to being his prison sentence according to CNN Brasil.

Первый взгляд на Life is Good убедил меня, что ничего хорошего из инвестиций в нее не выйдет. Второй взгляд – тоже. И вот почему. И да, демотиваторов здесь не будет. И без них смешно.

Если зайти на официальный сайт, то тут тихий ужас. Синий фон, звезды, отсутствие адаптивной верстки (особенно на мобильных устройствах сайт смотрится ужасно, попробуйте сами зайти) – а-ля привет из 90-х. Ребята, так уже даже в нулевые не делали. А на дворе – 2019-й, скоро 20-е годы XXI века начнутся. Вы опоздали с дизайном лет так на 30.
Далее. Сразу же справа вываливается форма, предлагающая начинать онлайн-чат с оператором. На полстраницы, перекрывая весь контент. Это сайт международной организации? Серьезно?
Далее смотрим, что сайт доступен аж на 9 языках! Захожу в английскую версию, ибо другими языками не владею. И что я вижу? Грубые грамматические и орфографические ошибки на уровне 7 класса средней школы. На скрине выделил лишь наиболее бросающиеся в глаза. Но одна фразочка «who specializiruetsya» уже доставляет.
Смысловое содержание сайта
Ну ладно. Чего я к дизайну-то привязался? У Нью-Йоркской биржи сайт тоже не фонтан. Может, недостатки дизайна компенсирует полезная инфа?

И тут облом. В разделе «О компании» я ожидаю увидеть какие-то данные – кто основал контору, кто является бенифициаром, кто инвесторы, сколько офисов, сотрудников, куда именно инвестирует Life is Good, какая прибыль, убытки. Но ничего этого нет. Просто несколько мотивационных фраз в духе: «Хватит работать на дядю, нести деньги нам и начинай чувствовать себя финансово независимым». Ну и несколько очевидно проплаченных роликов, залитых на Youtube.

Почему международная корпорация поскупилась на аренду или покупку собственного сервера, чтобы размещать там видео – загадка.

Основатель «Бест вей» Роман Василенко официально объявлен в розыск полицией

Основатель кооператива «Бест вей» и холдинга Life is good Роман Василенко официально объявлен в розыск, о чём свидетельствует запись в базе данных МВД.

По информации с сайта Министерства внутренних дел РФ, Роман Викторович Василенко 5 апреля 1969 года рождения разыскивается по статье УК (номер статьи не указывается). Также в базе розыска появилась и Елена Василенко, которая, предположительно, является супругой Романа Василенко и часто фигурирует в документах, связанных с работой кооператива и холдинга.

17 декабря 2021 года стало известно о возбуждении полицией Санкт-Петербурга уголовного дела по факту организации деятельности по привлечению денежных средств в особо крупном размере. Позже его переквалифицировали на мошенничество.

В 2022 году полиция стала задерживать представителей руководства ПК «Бест вей» и компании Life is good, а суды – отправлять их в СИЗО. 18 марта в Чите закрылся офис «Бест вей».

Сотрудники экономической полиции и управления ФСБ собрали доказательства для предъявления обвинения Роману Василенко. По данным следствия, мужчина с супругой находятся на Кипре. Отец Романа Василенко пытался улететь из Санкт-Петербурга в Дубай, но был задержан полицейскими.

По данным УМВД России по Забайкальскому краю, пайщики потребительского кооператива «Бест вей» в регионе не написали ни одного заявления в полицию, несмотря на то что организация фигурирует в уголовном деле о мошенничестве.
